How to apply for a passport?
As the passport form is processed by machines therefore the following points must be considered while applying for an Indian passport:
• The passport application form must be filled only in blocked capital letters
• Everything must be written only in blue/black ball point pens
• Special care must be taken during filling up of the form, as incomplete forms or forms with stray marks are liable of being rejected
After completely filling the passport application form applicants can submit the form along with other necessary documents in their respective passport offices. Passport applications can also be submitted at various speed post centers, District passport Cells and also at different passport collection centers across the country.
Documents required in issuing a passport:
Applicants are required to submit any three documents from the following list of documents as specified below:
• Voter’s Identity card
• Rations Cards Service
• Birth Certificates
• Service Identity Card
• Pension Documents
• Driving License
• Arms Licenses
• Caste Certificates
• Pattas, registered deeds or any other property documents
• PAN cards
One of any three documents must be a photo identification proof.
Time Required in Issuing a Passport:
Time required in issuing a passport may vary in between 6 and 8 weeks. Applicants can also avail the Tatkaal scheme and can receive their passports within 14 days of time.
Costs Involved in Issuing a Passport:
A passport with 36 pages cost about Rs 1000/-, while a passport with 60 pages can cost up to Rs 1500/-.
Validity of Passport:
The passport issued for applicants above 18 years is 10 years, while passport issued for applicants below 18 years is 5 years.
